Frequently Asked Questions..

How long does it take to make one of your throw rugs?

It generally takes a few days for each one, give or take. Sometimes, if there are joins in the yarn, or a mistake is made and unraveling has to happen.. it can be a little longer.

What are your throw rugs made of? Is it wool?

All of our throw rugs are made from 100% acrylic yarn, which makes it easy to look after them and keep them looking beautiful for years to come. We would love to make them from pure wool, but the cost involved would make them quite unaffordable, so we’d prefer to stick to acrylic for now!

How long have you been crocheting for?

Lee-Anne (Mum) learned how to crochet from her grandmother when she was 13. She now has two grown daughters, and is a grandmother herself! Let’s just say it has been a very long time, and a lot of practice.

I have an allergy to pet dander, can I buy from you?

Up until not so long ago, this may have been the perfect store for you, but fortunately for us, not so much for you, we recently adopted two stray kittens. They are kept well away from the crocheting process and all yarn, however they do live in the house with us, so we can’t rule out the possibility of their fur/dander/general essence and cuteness being in the atmosphere around the rugs.

How can I help support your small business?

We’d love your support! You can follow us on instagram at @hookedonthrows, send us emails at hookedonthrows@outlook.com.au with your glowing reviews, and make sure to tell your friends where you got that great new throw rug from. It looks so great on your sofa!

What’s the deal with the button?

The Button is our little piece of branding! We didn’t want our gorgeous throws to have an itchy tag on them, but we did want our name on there, and thus.. the button was born!

Can I remove the button without damaging the throw?

You absolutely can! We’d love it if it stayed but if you have any concerns about it, especially regarding pets or children, we understand 100% - after all, once it is in your hands, it’s yours! To remove the button we recommend snipping only the piece of yarn between the two button-holes on the front. It should slip right off, without any damage to the threads below. The button will not come off without this help, though, rest assured.

How do I look after my new rug?

As our rugs are 100% acrylic, they can be machine washed. We do not recommend tumble drying! Please do not do this, as it can compromise the integrity of your throw. The best method for washing and drying is a cold cycle, and drying as flat as possible, over a clotheshorse or something similar. It’s best not to hang them by pegs, as they can stretch under their own weight.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges?

As a small business, we would really rather not, if we’re being honest.

Once the throw rug leaves our hands, we can no longer accept it back, as it cannot be resold. We can’t guarantee that a returned rug hasn’t been in somebody’s home, with pets, smoke, food, etc. If we haven’t shipped the rug yet, and you have a change of mind about the colour, or simply selected the wrong one, we are happy to fulfil the order with your desired colour, but once it has shipped, we won’t be able to do this.

Refunds will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, but are generally not part of our store policy for change of mind, etc.

What size are your throw rugs?

All of our “full size” throw rugs are roughly the same size, but due to the nature of handmade products, they can vary a little bit. When measured flat, most of them come in at about 145cm x 150cm, which suits the middle of a Queen Bed, with no overhang. Variations are usually a few centimetres in each direction, sometimes more, sometimes less. If there is a particular colour you are interested in the size of, we are happy to confirm the size for you. Just drop us a line!
